Chris Taylor: How the Fatboy and Dr. Brackman came to life

[Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 05:51 CDT by Col. Jessep] [12 Comments]

In an interview on CVG Chris Taylor describes in detail how Supreme Commander was born:
We worked on the backstory for years - it started on the whiteboard as a pie chart that I divided into three pieces and drew out the three factions, and created these opposites - each factions' strengths and weaknesses - plus a belief system for each...
Dr Brackman - my favourite character actually - was inspired by one of the great personalities of the games industry:
Tom Prezina at EA. I asked Tom if I could have photos of him to model Dr Brackman and he agreed - it's really hard to come up with a character that rich and interesting out of just your imagination.
He also confirms that he will return to the Supreme Commander universe, maybe when 64-bit systems are standard.

Stardock to publish Demigod without copy protection!

[Monday, April 7, 2008 at 12:37 CDT by Col. Jessep] [63 Comments]

Here are some interesting news for our Demigod fans on VE3D:
"Forging our new partnership with Stardock is a big deal for all of us at GPG, and we couldn't be more excited about it," said Chris Taylor, founder and CEO of Gas Powered Games. "Not only do we have a proven retail publisher, but we get to partner with a pioneer in the digital distribution space… a company that totally understands what kind of experience our customer wants and the quality game they demand. The whole proposition is truly refreshing."
The release date of Demigod has been moved to February 2009 to support a public beta that will launch this summer. As revealed in an interview with Stardock founder Brad Wardell, Demigod will be released via Stardock's digital distribution service Impulse, utilizing no copy protection. "Other GPG titles are held by their respective publisher. But we’re working to get those titles onto Impulse as well." said Wardell. Other sources: Wired blog, Gamasutra

Hardware stalling SupCom2

[Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11:09 CDT by Col. Jessep] [80 Comments]

From an an interview for PC Zone, Chris Taylor speaking about the addition of new faction:
"... the only thing stopping me from doing it [adding new factions] on any sequel is memory".
"I've been told by my engineers that for Supreme Commander 2, I don't have enough memory in a PC with 4GB of RAM to have more factions".
"I'm like, 'That's insane!', so we've got to work that one out", he continued.
Interesting but here is what really got my attention:
"We'll return to the SC universe again," Taylor went on to reveal, "but we'll just have to see when that day is. Maybe when everybody has 64-bit processors..." Source on CVG
